I wrote this piece for University Communications. It was published both on UW-Madison’s news site and in the publication, Wisconsin Week, on October 22, 2008. It was also sent out to various media as a release and was picked up by both the AP and the Chicago Tribune.
I wrote this piece during my summer internship with the DNR magazine as part of an insert on the renewal of the Stewardship funds to preserve Wisconsin land and make it more accessible for diverse groups in the community. I was given two weeks to research, interview more than ten people and write this in- depth article about a topic I originally knew nothing about. My editors were pleased with my efforts and printed the article in full, with very few edits. It was published in the October, 2008 issue of the Wisconsin Natural Resources Magazine.
